iPhone is just more iCandy
The new 'iMust have' digital iJewellery is here - the Apple iPhone. This is the latest eye candy accessory that will probably sell in it's millions. But what is it? A phone? A jazzed up glassified iPod? A digital filofax? A camera? A TV/browser? Maybe it's not sure what it is...are we really now entering the age of merged technologies? Is it not just something else that's really nice to look at and use? I mean, would the iPod be so successful amongst the world of comparable generic mp3 players (at much less cost) if it wasn't so nice to look and hold?
Maybe it's well designed and nice to use in more ways than the function it is supposed to fulfil, just like the Mac, Apple's personal computer. It is a computer, but it actually looks nice, and you'd want it as the centre piece to your room rather than shoved away in the corner because it looks like a plastic box. Quite often, it will make it's environment look 'cool' or 'modern' because it is cool and modern.
There is no doubt that the iPhone is cool and modern but I for one will not be rushing out to buy one. Not because of the countless reasons not to have one, but because if I did have one, I'd be bound to lose it, and that would be catastrophic. Most of us have lost phones, but if we lost our iPhone - we'd lose our identity!
